— Clark ChengThe comet disaster forms the central plot of the movie, with it being the driving force behind the main climax of the film. However, there was a real-world inspiration behind the disaster, an inspiration that didn’t come from outer space. While the comet from Your Name wasn’t inspired by a real-world meteor strike, it was inspired by the devastating events of the Great Eastern Earthquake that hit Japan in 2011.
Animated characters often are particularly memorable in their character design. Mitsuha’s character design is particularly eye-catching, with her red braided cord standing out immediately.
It may come as no surprise to some, but Your Name actually managed to become the highest-grossing anime movie of all time, with it managing to overcome the legendary and highly influential Studio Ghibli movie, Spirited Away.
The town of Itomori is the central focus of Your Name, with the rural town being the location of the comet strike that forms the central focus of the movie. However, while the town is based on a real location, Itomori itself is a fictitious town.
The story of Your Name manages to combine the modern with the ancient, telling a fresh story for modern audiences that remains steeped in Japanese myth and culture, allowing for a new take on some ancient tales.
